RIP Jim Irsay – Indianapolis Colts' Owner Has Passed Away at Age 65

Jim Irsay. The only owner I've ever known as a Colts fan. I always loved the guy. I'm sure a lot of people saw him as a meddling owner. But I will always take a "meddling owner", who first and foremost cares about his team winning, over half the owners in the NFL. Above all else, Jim Irsay wanted nothing more than for the Colts to win football games. I always loved him for that.

I honestly don't even know what to say about Jim Irsay, because so many of my favorite things about him, the things that actually made me relate to him most, aren't the types of things you bring up in a "eulogy". He had a long history of substance abuse and drunk driving arrests. He was far from perfect. But he's a human. And humans aren't perfect. Humans have problems. Jim Irsay's imperfections are what made him such a legend. Even if it was sometimes tongue and cheek, Jim Irsay's imperfections were always what he was celebrated for. Jim Irsay was a wild card. Everybody loves a wild card. And for as long as Jim Irsay owned the Colts, the Colts were a pretty damn good football team. They won a Super Bowl. They finished above .500 more times than not. He was a damn good owner. Anybody who differently doesn't know a lick of ball.

And he seemed like a damn good guy too. He cared about his players. He cared about the fans. He cared about the city of Indianapolis as a whole. I don't actually know the guy from atom, but I'm confident in saying he was a great person. The stories about him will stand the test of time (see the tweets below).

RIP Jim Irsay. If I could clone you and make Jim Irsay 2.0 the Colts' owner for the next 40 years, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Now let's go beat the shit out the Knicks.
