The Sky-Fever Game Averaged 2.5 Million Viewers Last Weekend, An All-Time Record For WNBA Viewership On ESPN
Listen, I didn't even watch the game last weekend and I'm glad I didn't considering the narratives on the ole Internet that have spawned from it, but it's hard to argue that people don't care after seeing the numbers. For every "the WNBA sucks" tweet is 10 more people watching and engaged in what is one of sport's better of the bitter rivalries these days. I say this with baited breath but I actually disagree with Dave that it was -just- Caitlin Clark who brought in the numbers. Clark vs Reese has been putting asses in seats for years now, and that's why this blog from Saturday's game is going to be one of the highest numbies of the year:
Clark is an absolute superstar and they want to see her play the Bayou/Chi Barbie in Reese no matter what day or time it's at. And the only real way to prove this is the litmus test of the rest of the year to see viewership and if I were a betting man, I'd say we're going to see a drastic dropoff in Chicago Sky viewership until the next game against CC. The Fever's numbers will probably drop too, because if you tell me that 2.5 million people on average are going to be watching the Fever play the Dream on a random Tuesday night in May then I have some ice to sell you as Dave would say.
