Steph Curry And The Warriors Had An All Time Reaction The Moment They Learned About The Luka Doncic Trade

In recent NBA history, there have been a handful of classic "remember where you were when" moments. Some are fun, like when the Clippers locked DeAndre Jordan in his house to prevent him from leaving the Clippers for the Mavs and Paul Pierce was tweeting out Rocket emoji pictures while Mark Cuban drove around his neighborhood trying to break in. Others have changed the course of the NBA forever, like when LeBron held "The Decision" or when KD held everyone hostage before announcing he was joining Golden State.
But as shocking as some of those moments were, nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to what took place this past February with the Luka Doncic trade. It might be the first time in NBA history everyone had the same reaction when we heard the news. It didn't matter who you were, you could be a Hollywood actor
or even Shams himself
and we all said the same thing. We all thought Shams was hacked, and we were all completely shocked at what the hell was happening. Usually, we normal people have zero in common with NBA players, but on that night, we were all the same. Players, fans, we all couldn't believe it.
Just look at how the Warriors reacted in real time to the news. You're trying to tell me this wasn't all of us?
I am positive every single one of us made the same exact face as Steph Curry and Kyle Anderson in that moment

And sure, we can all look back now and laugh, given that the Lakers didn't even get past the first round, but you have to remember what the narrative/conversation was when this trade first went down. The Lakers were talked about as title contenders/favorites, poised to run through the West and cruise to the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, they didn't realize (or want to accept) that Luka's defense would once again be a disaster, and no matter how good his offense would be, his defensive/conditioning issues would ultimately lead to their playoff death, just like it did for the Mavs. Let's not forget, his own coach came out immediately after the series and publicly stated that they needed to get into "Championship shape". Who do we think he was talking about?
For the Warriors specifically, at this point in the NBA season, it was looking like we were destined for a Lakers/Warriors playoff battle in some fashion, whether that was going to be in the first round or the Play In, so you can understand why Steph & Co had that reaction. Aside from the news being a shock, it also had the potential to be a problem for the Warriors to deal with in a few months. It didn't end up working out that way because the Lakers couldn't live up to their end of the bargain (what a shame!)
by losing to the Wolves in 5 quick games. Something tells me GS would have much rather had that matchup compared to how things ended up, seeing as how the Wolves also bounced GS in a quick 5 games. Something tells me their matchup against the Lakers would have been a much easier challenge, and who knows, maybe Steph doesn't pull his hammy and the entire look of the Western Conference playoff race is different.
My guess is that if you had cameras rolling around these same Warriors on the night of the Lottery, their reactions would also be just like the rest of us in that moment as well. Everything about this entire fiasco, from the trade to the clear rigging of the Lottery to bail the Mavs out, is one of those rare situations where everyone experiencing it all has the same reaction. I honestly can't really remember anything else that comes close to it. Maybe Jayson Tatum's Achilles tear? No matter who you root for, everyone pretty much had the same reaction to that, but that might even be a stretch. That's how batshit crazy that Luka trade was.
It's just a nice reminder that despite the hundreds of millions of dollars and world class talent, NBA players can sometimes be just like us. Personally I find it bullshit that I don't possess their talent or bankroll and all I'm left with was being shocked at the news just like Steph Curry, but nobody ever said life was fair.
