Auburn D3 Transfer and First Base Coach Andrew Dutton Got Into the Game on Senior Day and Launched a Home Run in His Only At-Bat of the Season

How can you not be romantic about baseball?

Andrew Dutton spent his first four collegiate baseball seasons at Division III Birmingham Southern, leading the Panthers to the DIII College World Series in 2024, the same year the college closed its doors. The baseball team's season lasted until after the school actually officially ceased to exist. Dutton transferred to Auburn for his final year of eligibility, where he spent the entirety of the 2025 season as the Tigers' first base coach and did not appear in a game until Senior Night with Auburn leading Jacksonville State by 18 runs.

Then he stepped to the plate for his only at-bat of the season and sent one into orbit over the right field wall. Baseball.

I can't believe Auburn couldn't find one of its 37 wins this season to get Dutton another at-bat or two, but that ended up being the right call so we could have this moment. Getting another AB in Omaha would obviously be a dream for any college baseball player, but if that's the only hack Dutton ever takes in an Auburn uniform, he will end his career with a 4.000 OPS at the Division I level and an incredible highlight.
