'It's Become Personal' - Trey Hendrickson (Last Year's Sack Leader) Is Threatening To Sit Out This Year If The Bengals Don't Give Him A New Contract

Ahh, we finally made it to the part of the football schedule where a big name threatens to sit out for the year. Trey Hendrickson is far from the first or the last person to do this. But, he's being very open about how the Bengals are handling everything. Here's the thing. I believe him. It's simple. The Bengals don't have the best reputation when it comes to handling business, they are known for being a nickel and dime organization. Yeah, they paid Joe Burrow, they finally paid Ja'Marr Chase and while their offense is typically awesome, you can't completely suck on defense and compete in the AFC.

I do love the move of showing up like you're sneaking out to play 18 during the afternoon. Not even hiding what you want. If you want a new contract and the claim of the Bengals not talking to you besides telling you that a fine is coming your way, I'd hit the links too. He even said it. It's not like he's coming off a 4-sack season. He's had 17.5 each of the last two years, he led he league in sacks last year. It's all the business argument of paying after production or waiting until your contract ends.

Now we got ourselves a standoff. This is how you know football season is rapidly approaching. I feel like usually this is reserved for a wide receiver, but it feels good to get a defensive end in the mix here. It won't beat TO doing situps in his driveway while demanding contract stuff, but the 22 minute talk accusing the Bengals of cutting you off will play too. All I know is we got ourselves a good old fashioned stand off. People arguing that he signed an extension two years ago, honor the contract. Other people screaming at the Bengals front office for being the Bengals front office. The beautiful business in sports.
