Xander Schauffele Deserves To Win The PGA Championship Again After Seeing His Menu For The Champions Dinner
I know the PGA Championship has always done a Champions Dinner, it's typically when we get the picture of John Daly wearing something bizarre. But I don't know when the PGA Championship started releasing the menu of the dinner. Feels like this should only be done for the Masters. You can't do it for anything else, especially the next major.
But, here we are with a menu release and people arguing on Twitter all about it. I'm going to do that, just on the blog, a good old fashioned way. I should clarify two things though:
1. I'm a Xander guy
2. I fucking love blue cheese
I say all that because Xander has cheese on basically every option here. It's an alarming amount of cheese.
You can get away with the smoke goat cheese dates and the blue cheese on the steak, but you can't also have feta with the smoked watermelon and steak and blue cheese crotini. You want one of them and I'll listen to the argument of having 3 different cheese options on the menu. Also, what the hell is that pickled watermelon choice? I'm not opposed to eating weird things (see: Skyline), but I have never heard of pickled watermelon. Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna eat it, just shocking to see that make the menu. That has my attention more than anything else because I can't figure out how it would taste.
To make sure I wasn't being crazy here, I brought in the big guns - I texted Large and Cons. One being the most notable food guy at the company, the other being a fancy food guy.
Both said it was too repetitive with the steak and cheese. Need to mix it up in the app category. But, then, Large being the guy he is went to the dessert and brought up a good point:
To be honest, you don’t have to dress up a banana split either.
I guarantee the “salted vanilla gelato, luxardo whip cream, bruleed banana. crushed peanuts, rum sauce, chocolate dipped wafer” is no better than the traditional split I get at Carvel.
Take the luxardo and the rum and shove it.
Can't have two fruit desserts either. Throw some chocolate out there, Xander. I do love the move of having blue cheese on the waygu. I said I'm a big blue cheese fan, I order it on the steak every chance I can. It adds the perfect little taste to some steak, especially at a place like Ruby's or something like that. Can't wait for Thursday. I know the PGA tends to feel like the clear 4th major, but Quail Hollow should deliver. So, yeah, give me another Xander win. If he's willing to serve blue cheese this much, he should be the No. 1 player in the world. And in the words of Large:
'I'd eat everything.'
That's why I want him to repeat. I want blue cheese getting as much good promotion as possible. It deserves to be the number 1 option for wings. It should be involved in more food and not just labeled as funky or runner-up to ranch. It's better than ranch. Not to mention, Xander knows how to provide a gift for the dinner too.
