Baltimore Hardcore Band Turnstile Put On An Insane Free Show In A Park This Weekend

Hardcore band Turnstile put on a free show this weekend in Baltimore's Wyman Park to raise money for healthcare for the homeless and the videos were so insane I just had to share em here. Bodies flying everywhere into an absolute sea of fans, speakers falling and being put back up by people in the front row, no security in sight - just good (albeit outrageous) vibes all around. I woulda killed to be there (watching from a safe distance), and can't wait to see Turnstile again under the K Bridge next month. Their show in the rain at Brooklyn Mirage a couple years back was insane....

Turnstile has risen to a very rare level of stardom for a hardcore band (music in Taco Bell commercials, opened up for Blink 182 on their reunion tour) which has of course led to many in the scene turning on them, and I hate that. Sure, they've softened their sound over the years and feel as "alt rock/punk" as they do "hardcore" now - but it definitely feels like the spirit of hardcore is still alive and well at their shows and they've opened so many new eyes up to the genre. Don't go into every hardcore show expecting a Turnstile vibe - because it ain't all like this, and it gets much heavier/more violent - but don't hate on the band just for blowing up and becoming successful either; that's lame.

I think the fact that a hardcore band could draw a crowd like that, even if it is a free show, is massively impressive and worth applauding. Turnstile's new album is out June 6 - here's the full show....
