Respect To An All-Time Bag Getter: Derek Carr Decides Not To Get Surgery, Retires From The NFL After Making Over $200 Million
I don't think I've ever seen the reaction from a guy retiring like Derek Carr. Saints fans are ready to throw a parade, every non-Saints/Raiders fan is basically giving him respect for making over $200 million. Excuse me, let me be more clear here. That's making more than $200 million despite giving up the $30 million that Florio is reporting. Nothing but respect to a man who can finesse that sort of money for being an okay quarterback. Carr peaked in 2016, other than that? He was basically an average quarterback.
I know quarterback money is inflated, but this really shows it. Well, at least until Kirk Cousins retires. When Kirk hangs it up we all will respect the greatest to do it. I say it all the time, I never blame these guys for taking the contract. It's not their fault the teams overvalue guys and give them a ton of money, any single person in the world would sign up for $200 million and be labeled average at best at your job. That's the sweet spot.
Back to what I said about never really seeing this sort of reaction to a retirement, there's a third avenue here too. Basically everyone assumes Carr will try to come back at some point. The whole Saints/Carr scenario was due to be a messy divorce at some point, this seems to be the most amicable it could get. That said, have fun with this quarterback room:
Can't let the league give them Arch. Either way, shout out Derek Carr for a very average career and one hell of a run in the money department. Guy figured it out perfectly.
