The New Pope's Brother Was Forced To Address Claims That The Pope Is A Cubs Fan And Informed The World That Pope Leo Is Actually A White Sox Fan (BONUS - The Chicago Pope Memes Are Out Of Control)

WGN- Almost immediately after Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Prevost’s election as Pope, the question emerged: is the pontiff a fan of the Cubs or the White Sox?

Speaking to WGN on Thursday, Prevost’s brother John answered the burning question: Pope Leo XIV, as Prevost is now known, is a fan of the South Siders.

“He was never, ever a Cubs fan. So I don’t know where that came from. He was always a Sox fan,” John Prevost said.

There you have it.

Straight from the lips of the kin of the man who is now infallible (in the eyes of the Roman Catholic Church). That's basically as "word is bond" as you're going to get in this day and age.

All day long after the white smoke cleared, and America's own was announced, shocking the world, speculation began as to where his allegiances lay.

Allegations that Pope Leo was a southside Cubs fan - the likes of which I haven't known since meeting Barstool Carl - started swirling and it appeared as if the White Sox had suffered yet another backbreaking defeat.

Adam was right.

It was the talk of the city all morning.

But in a drastic turn of events, WGN's own Josh Frydman did some old-school Big J sports journalism work, tracked down Rob's brother John, and got to the bottom of it.

Could this be the dramatic turning point the dumpster fire that is the Chicago White Sox have so desperately needed? That remains to be seen. But having the man closest to the Big Guy upstairs rooting for you has got to carry some serious weight no?

The White Sox are celebrating that fact.
