Home Course Advantage Is Back On - The Ryder Cup Is Giving Out 3,000 Free Tickets To Random Golfers On New York's Public Courses

Probably the two biggest stories heading into the Ryder Cup at Bethpage have been 1) will Keegan Bradley make the team despite being the captain and 2) ticket prices

Well, now, they are at least trying to get some regular fans back to Bethpage. We're getting a real life Willy Wonka's golden ticket here: 

[Source] - In a giveaway being called, "The People's Perk," the PGA of America will be giving away tickets randomly to New York residents -- no notice when or where -- who are at Bethpage Black and several other public golf courses on Long Island and the New York City metro area.

The random giveaway is 500 tickets a day from Tuesday through Sunday. Each person chosen will get vouchers for two tickets.

Good to get the clarification that it's for the actual rounds too and not just practice rounds. The whole key has been home course advantage. Yeah, you need the right course manipulation and what benefits your team more. We see it every Ryder Cup with how the courses are set up. But Bethpage is made to be for the people. It's supposed to be a little rowdy and actually deliver there where the Europeans are getting frustrated. This is how you get it back. Not to mention the People's Perk is a great name for it all.

I can't imagine getting one of these tickets. You're out there grinding away on a Sunday, maybe coming off a triple on 17 before a par on 18 gets you back in the right mindset. Then you walk to the clubhouse and someone pops up with some free tickets. That's how you get back on the course. Forget about the par to save 93 on 18, it's the free ticket coming your way. 

I've said it before, but I love the Ryder Cup. It's one of my favorite events in sports. This is how you start to make up for the insane prices that we saw right off the bat. Obviously shit is going to be expensive, but you gotta find a way to get the common man filling the stands. Make it a true People's Ryder Cup as much as possible. Now get the best 12 and beat Europe.
