As A Store Owner, If You Give A Customer 99 Cents In Change Back On A Large Purchase, That Is An Inconsiderate Move

Over the weekend I was in Arizona and went to make a cash purchase at a boutique clothing store. As you can see from the tweet above, I was seething after receiving 99 cents back from the store owner on a $139.01 purchase. It's just rude.

And I get it if you're a teen or young employee working the register. That I'm not going to worry about. They're just "doing my job" as Fasoli would say. I would hold no grudge at all there. But if you own the store, it is insane to give back 99 cents. And there was no leave a penny, take a penny thing or change dish. It was a nicer place.

Twitter provided some mixed opinions.

A fair point was brought up here about speaking up for myself. I didn't want to make a scene. But in retrospect, I should've said something on the spot.

Failure to comply would result in a real life freak out.

And I would understand if this is a $7.01 purchase at a convenience store. But if it's a three figure or more purchase, it's just plain rude and you own the place, it's just plain rude to not just give the full dollar back.

We brought it up on The Yak today and the room was fairly split, but it turns out I had an unlikely ally.
