"I'll Just Put Ice On It" - It's Nothing Short Of a Miracle That The Pirates Fan Who Fell 21 Feet From The Stands Is Very Much Alive And On His Road To Recovery

By now I'm sure you've seen the above clip where a little over a week ago a fan at a Pirates game fell 21 feet over the right field railing and onto the field. It's a harrowing video that would make many believe you were watching a guy fall to his death. You could not fall on a worse place on your body when that right there. All I was thinking about was that time Josh Hamilton tossed a ball to a fan which led to them lunging over the wall and dying. Things got even darker as many wondered if this was more of a jump than a fall. That turned out to not be true with this new angle showing he simply lost his balance in a freak accident.

I'd venture to guess he had a bunch of beverages and just lost control of his body in a moment of excitement, but none of this seemed on purpose.

Well, we have some good news to add to this crazy video. The man who fell, Kavan Markwood, is not only alive, but actually progressing towards recovery.

(source) “He still has a long way to go — he’s dealing with a broken neck, clavicle, and back so there are plenty of obstacles ahead,” Phillips wrote. “But he’s showing real strength, and we’re staying hopeful for a smooth recovery. This will also require plenty of rest and following instructions from the great doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital.”

The fact that he's not even paralyzed is crazy. Sure, everything seems broken and his rehab will be a bitch, but things could have ended up so much worse. What's crazy is he's taking steps already. He said he'll speak more when he gets home in a week, but for now this is how he summed everything up.

“I’m all right,” he said. “I can’t really sleep. I have a lot of back pain.” “Broken everything” is how Markwood described his injuries, which include back and neck injuries and a swollen hand.

“I think when I get home I’ll just put ice on it,” he said.

"I'll just put ice on it" is a hell of a way to look ahead to rehabbing breaking all the bones in your body. That's Pittsburgh toughness for ya. What a beast. Maybe I'll think next time I complain about sleeping the wrong way and complaining about a stiff back. Could always be worse.

P.S. In the last week we have this accident, that drunk asshole fight with the PNC Park usher, and today the manager of the Pirates Derek Shelton getting fired. Someone bubble wrap Paul Skenes pronto.
