“If We Had The First Pick, We Wouldn’t Take You” - The Stage Is Set For Anthony Edwards To Make Steve Kerr Eat His Pre-Draft Words

Not to be dramatic, but the NBA's 2nd Round is off to a historic start. That's not hyperbole either. We've quite literally never seen something like what has happened to kick things off in 2025

How those series end up is still very much TBD, but there's no denying that the start to the 2nd round has been electric as hell, and the good news is that even more history is on the line in tonight's slate of games.

Should the Wolves lose to the Warriors tonight, it will mark the first time in NBA history that the lower seed won all 4 of the Game 1s in the 2nd round. Given how the Warriors are playing and the fact that Steph Curry exists, it's not exactly a stretch to think they can go into the Twin Cities and steal Game 1.

While they'll have to deal with the pretty overwhelming size challenge that the Wolves present, the Warriors also have to factor in the possibility that Anthony Edwards will be out for blood, and perhaps even more than normal. He's one of the best competitors we have in the NBA, but as we know, the true killers find motivation in even the smallest slights as a way to bring out another side of them and translate that into on the court dominance.

Why does that matter in this matchup? Allow Ant to tell you himself

Remember back in 2020 where all the predraft red flags with Ant were that he didn't like basketball and wasn't serious about it blah blah blah? I'd say 5 years later, it's fun to look back at that and laugh. I'll also remind you that in the 2020 Draft, the Warriors took James Wiseman. How'd that work out? Granted they didn't have the opportunity to take Ant, but according to Steve Kerr it wouldn't have mattered even if they did have the #1 pick. Good job Steve! You could also make the case that passing on LaMelo Ball in hindsight was another brutal miss, but that's not the point of this blog.

Even if it's possible that Steve Kerr's comments motivated Ant to put in the work and become the player we see today, that doesn't mean once the game starts that Ant won't be out for blood, looking to remind Kerr what he doesn't have. If he has a massive game and the Wolves win? You just know Ant is going to talk all the shit in the world, so as of now that's what I'm rooting for.

So far this season in 4 games against GS, Ant is putting up 26/6/5.5 on 44/43% splits with 4.3 3PM a night. He's been great individually, but as a team, the Wolves lost 3 of 4. The thing is both sides look a little different for this series, and both are playing great which is what makes this such an intriguing series.

We have the Butler vs MIN beef, Ant vs Kerr, Draymond vs Mike Conley (look it up) etc. The stage is set for another incredible series that I'm pretty sure we all want to see go the distance (outside of each fanbase). For that to happen, Ant is going to have to show up and be the guy to match Steph Curry blow for blow, which certainly is not easy. Plenty of stars have fallen short trying to solve that challenge, but if there's anyone who has a good shot to do it, it's an extremely motivated Anthony Edwards.
