'Chickenshit' - Quinn Ewers' Agent Claims Teams Told Him Ewers Fell To The 7th Round Because He's 'Too Big Of A Name To Be A Clipboard Holder'
[Source] - The day after the draft, Slavin said he reached out to "half the league" to find out what happened.
"They thought he was a third- or fourth-round pick, but too big of a name to be a clipboard holder," Slavin said. "Which I think is chickens---."
Said one personnel chief, "There's only so many reps to go around for young quarterbacks. You can justify it at other positions, but if you can't get a quarterback the amount of work to develop him, then you're almost wasting a pick."
Come on now. I don't know what happened or when it turned but this year feels like the year we're getting the most asinine explanations for why people dropped in the Draft. No, there's no collusion against the Sanders family and no, there's no way people didn't pick Quinn Ewers because of his name being too big. I like Ewers a lot, I think he got a little too much heat for Texas losing. But you're still Quinn Ewers, you're not bigger than other guys coming out of college.
I can't say this enough. NFL teams will take whoever they possibly can if it means they have a better chance of winning. That's all NFL teams care about. Winning and money. If Ewers was a 3rd round pick and teams thought he'd help them win, they draft him there. Same goes for Shedeur. Not to mention you start getting into the contract amounts and things like that and you see why quarterbacks tend to slide more.
I still can't get over how bizarre the draft was. Not even in terms of guys sliding, just how it was all covered. You had Mel Kiper fighting people on air over Shedeur, no one saying the name Cam Ward who was the No. 1 overall pick, guys just all over the place. It was one of the more baffling draft coverages we've had and it's just going to keep going now. You got Quinn Ewers agent saying it's chickenshit that this was a reason. Sure, man, we need games to start.
