The Kentucky Dream: Mark Pope vs Rick Pitino Is Reportedly Happening Next Season, Immediately Becomes The Most Anticipated Game In College Hoops

It's happening! It's all happening! This instantly becomes the most anticipated game of next year. Don't let ESPN try to sell you on a shitty UNC team mattering because they have to do a show there. Don't worry about any other event before the NCAA Tournament. It's St. John's vs Kentucky. Correction: It's top-10 Kentucky vs top-10 St. John's.

Even better will be the week leading up to this, strictly because Rick Pitino will spend every waking moment talking about how awesome Mark Pope is, how perfect of a program Kentucky is. No one - myself included - does a better job of talking about Kentucky in a glowing fashion than Rick Pitino. The man loves the place. He never should have left the place. It's arguably the biggest what-if in college basketball history considering what he had rolling there. If he never leaves for the Celtics, he's probably the winningest coach in college basketball history with a plethora - yes, plethora - of titles.

This goes to the bigger story though that a lot of people have thrown out there and VCU does. Coaches who leave for a better job, come back to their place to play their former team. Pitino should have to come to Rupp every year. It's only right since he'll eventually be the GM of Kentucky basketball. This is just the perfect news before we head into Kentucky Oaks/Derby weekend. The dream is coming true.
