It Should Be Illegal That Airlines Charge What They Charge And Reuse The Blankets They Give Out
NY Post - Flight attendants are warning that the complimentary blankets given out on planes are full of gross things like hair, food, mold and bodily fluids.
Natalie Magee, a flight attendant of 20 years, admitted to Travel + Leisure that not even flight attendants want to touch these blankets.
They have seen passengers use these throws to clean up spills and messes, wipe their noses and even gather toenail clippings.
How often these blankets get washed depends on the type of flight itself as well as the airline.
“Most airlines have contract cleaners that take the blankets off after international flights and wash them in hot water, then seal them in plastic bags to be reused,” she said.
“However, on domestic flights, I’ve had blankets on my flights that we are instructed to just refold and put back in the bin.”
Jail! How is this possible. Let's first start here. Flights are expensive. The industry also has seemed to nickel and dime you for everything nowadays. Extra fees for a seat, extra fees for bags, wifi, boarding groups, $42 for 2 snacks and a drink in the airport on top of it all. Just a racket upon a racket. And everything is delayed, or takes forever to get off the plane, and not even all of them have live tv, or even tv's for a movie. But ... no one is driving across the country or taking a Greyhound for 10x longer than it takes to fly somewhere (unless of course you lose a bet like I did), so the airlines know they have us by the balls and we have to fly so they do whatever they want and we just respectfully bend over and take it.
But this development to learn that airlines either reuse their blankets or in some cases not even wash them is downright insane. I couldn't believe it. Maybe it's my own ignorance, but airlines don't make enough money that they don't just toss these blankets after one use? Because I 100000% thought they did. Just insane that some of these airlines don't even wash the blankets. How is this possible? How can this be legal.
There has to be something done about this. If a blanket gets used toss it. It's not even like every person on every flight is using a blanket, I imagine a ton never get used on flights so the stock of blankets isn't getting ripped through daily. And these airlines are still reusing them? That's insane. Also how much would airlines be buying these blankets for if they are buying in the bulk they are, like 30 cents a piece? And they still have the nerve to reuse them after someone used one to change their kid's diaper? Cmon. Fix this.
