Mississippi State FIRES National Championship Winning Coach Lemonis During The Season?!?!?
It is a cold world out there.
After winning the school's only national title in any sport in history in 2021, Mississippi State has fired Chris Lemonis during the middle of the baseball season.
After winning the CWS, The Bulldogs fell off a cliff in 2022 & 23 failing to make the NCAA Tournament.
Just when the heat was getting turned up on Lemonis, Mississippi State had a huge bounce back season in 2024 ultimately falling to Virginia in NCAA Regional Final. (Many people thought State should have been a top 16 Regional Host).
The Bulldogs were ranked in the top 25 preseason but 2025 has not gone the way they envisioned. Mississippi State is 7-14 in a LOADED SEC and sits on the bubble of the NCAA Tourney.
Having said all that, I am still surprised to see the Bulldogs move on from Lemonis in season. The dude won the only national title in school history for Christ sake. And they still have a shot to make the NCAA Tourney.
Mississippi State has a SERIOUS baseball tradition and his home to the top stadium in the country. Clearly, donors were not happy with the current direction of the program.
They will be able to get a head start in their search for some big names by making this move too.
Lemonis deserved to finish out this season. It is a bad look for the program but no one will care if the Bulldogs hire the right guy.
