Attack Of The Clones May Be The Best Star Wars Movie

Alright, if I’m being completely honest, Revenge of the Sith is the best Star Wars movie of all time. However, there’s an argument to be made for Attack of the Clones. Attack of the Clones essentially lays the foundation for the entire series. Let’s start from the top.
Padme
This is a Nicky Smokes blog, so you already know what I’m starting with: No one has ever looked hotter than Natalie Portman in Attack of the Clones. The back scratch during the Battle of Geonosis just put it over the top. She was serving looks from beginning to end, plus she proved she’s a total badass. Watching her and Anakin fight side by side brings tears to my eyes every single time.
Battle of Geonosis
Speaking of the Battle of Geonosis, it’s by far the best battle scene in Star Wars. Yes, Anakin vs. Obi-Wan was iconic, but that was a one on one duel. The Battle of Geonosis had hundreds of Jedi fighting side by side with clone troopers for the first time. It was an all out bloodbath and, in my opinion, the best battle scene in the entire saga.
Anakin Skywalker Character Arc

However, my favorite part of this movie is the complexity of Anakin Skywalker. In a lot of ways, I relate to him most in this movie: the young, talented apprentice who wants more responsibility but feels like his master, Obi-Wan, is "holding him back" when in reality, Obi-Wan was doing what was best for him. The constant need for more, the desire to control everything in your life, it’ll drive a man crazy, and it absolutely drove Anakin crazy. Watching him fall in love with Padmé while also seeing his mother die in his arms is a full circle moment that ultimately leads to him murdering an entire village, the first real glimpse of his full, unleashed rage. Everything Anakin goes through in this episode makes his turn to Vader feel so much more tragic and inevitable rather than sudden.
Clone Wars
And lastly, Attack of the Clones gave us The Clone Wars. Clone Wars might honestly be my favorite thing Star Wars has ever put out. Part of that is because when it came out, I was a kid and it was my favorite thing to watch, but even as an adult, it still hits. It plays such a pivotal role in the Star Wars saga, without it, there would be so many gaps in the timeline, and we wouldn’t have all the incredible characters and side plots that the show introduced.
So, all in all, do I think it’s better than Revenge of the Sith? No. But I do think it’s a lot closer than people realize.
