UPI News- A British man who paid more than $26,000 to replace his stolen car later discovered he had unknowing bought his own vehicle back.

Ewan Valentine, 36, from Solihull, England, said he discovered Feb. 28 that his black 2016 Honda Civic Type-R had been stolen from its overnight parking space.

Valentine said he was distraught about the loss and hoped to replace the car with a nearly-identical vehicle.

"Sure enough, I found one for sale. Same color, same year, same custom exhaust system," he wrote on social media.

The license plates and VIN were different from his stolen vehicle, so he didn't think too much about the similarities until he had already paid more than $26,000 for the replacement ride.

"I started to notice some odd things when I got it home. I noticed a tent peg and some Christmas tree pines in the boot. I noticed the locking wheel nut was in a Tesco sandwich bag. I noticed some wrappers in the central storage section. All oddly similar to my stolen car," he wrote.

Valentine decided to check the car's on-board GPS and discovered it had previously been to his house, his parents' house and even his partners' parents' house.

Valentine said he does not believe the garage that sold him the car knew it was stolen.

"The police and the Honda garage all said this was one of the best clone jobs they'd ever seen, so if it wasn't for these little artifacts, no one would have ever known," he said.

The car is currently being investigated by police for forensic evidence and will then be turned over to Valentine's insurance company.

I luckily haven't had a car stolen, knock on wood. Have definitely made the mistake of leaving the doors unlocked and had the car ransacked but luckily no cars stolen. I cannot fathom how frustrating that must be. Imagine it's a Sunday night into a Monday and you wake up a tad too late to work, you're rushing around and walk outside to see the car gone. Now you can't drive to work, which leads to sending a shitty text or call to your boss, and maybe the worst of all, spending ALL FUCKING DAY on the phone with the police, insurance, etc etc. Just mind numbingly frustrating, and again you literally can't drive anywhere. Just a fucking nightmare all around. NIGHTMARE.

Now because I haven't had a car stolen I really don't know the ins and outs of what insurance covers, but I'm hoping he got some sort of payout. So just when this guy probably got over being absolutely livid his car was stolen, he gets around to buying a car and luckily finds one basically the same. I'm not picky with cars. I have never test driven one, I don't care about color, I rather require two things, four doors, and the gas cap on the driver's side so you don't have to lean over to pay the attendant. But I respect that some people are picky for cars. So when this guy finds basically the same car, he had to be ecstatic. The frustration of the theft was almost erased by finding something that similar, he was likely thrilled to have such a similar car. And low and behold, it's the exact same fucking car. Like you gotta be fucking kidding me.

Just the worst fucking luck of all time, and what are the odds? It's almost unbelievable. This guy deserves every fucking break moving forward. To be fucked over like this with such bad luck, let's all hope he gets everything good moving forward. My advice … go play the lotto.
