The Nuggets vs. Clippers Just Cashed One Of The Greatest Bets Ever Made
I don't normally push my picks on anybody in the office, but Big Cat is one who loves good value and if there is a major longshot I feel good about, I do mention it from time to time. In the past two months I had given him three picks:
- Anthony Edwards to win clutch player of the year (+5000). The logic being that he was leading the NBA in clutch points at the time and Jalen Brunson was iffy to play the required 65+ games to be eligible to win any awards. It ended with Brunson coming back and almost catching Edwards (Ant beat him out by 1 point in total clutch points) and the voters went with JB. Can't blame them, but at 50:1, I thought it was good value as it went down to +1200 before they closed the polls and he made the finals. Who wouldn't take that at 50:1?! Big Cat was not happy with that reasoning.
- On Thursday morning, Big Cat asked me what my favorite Draft prop was. I told him it was the Raiders to take an offensive lineman. The new GM, John Spytek is a friend of mine and he's always preached the trenches. I thought Armand Membou made sense there or even Kelvin Banks Jr. They could use an upgrade at Tackle too. Unfortunately, things went a bit haywire once the Jags traded up and the Browns were no longer going to take Hunter.
- The only other pick I gave him was a couple days ago when I said that the best longshot I liked was Clippers vs. Nuggets any game to end in a game winning buzzer beater. The stipulation was that there has to be no time left on the clock. So if there is 0.3, 0.1 or anything like that, it is not a winning ticket. Pretty much the game needs to be tied with a few seconds left so a team winds the clock down to take a last second shot and then hit it. I had bet it pre-series at +2500 for only a little (0.4u), but then once I gave it to Big Cat, I re-bet it at +3000 at 0.5u.
After the Raiders pick didn't hit, he was MFing me like crazy and saying how dumb this only straggling bet was. He talked about it on The Yak and I requested a Facetime after if it hit to re-live it.
Well low and behold, the Nuggets couldn't hold onto a 22-point lead tonight and the game was tied with 8.0 seconds left. I had the idea to FaceTime Big Cat and record it. We're in the content business, so it'd be a good video either way. But what happened next made it become the bet of my lifetime.
Unfortunately, I found out FaceTime does not let you record audio. So this recording is just dead air, but this is our full call with visuals.
My whole body had pins and needles for the entire review. It was the greatest bet of my life. Being on Facetime with my buddy who I gave the tip to and we're sweating out a review that went in our favor made it so much better. What an unbelievable ride!
