Captain Crunchtime: Jalen Brunson Ran Away With The NBA Clutch Player Of The Year Award
I know, I know. Jalen Brunson winning this award would've felt a lot sweeter if the Knicks hadn't just lost a playoff game where he came up short of completing a comeback with some Brunson Ball. But I'm not going to let that sour what is admittedly a pretty cool award reserved for giant men with giant balls.
There have been so many times where the Knicks were haunted by players that came up clutch in big moments, so it's pretty damn awesome for the Knicks to finally have the best clutch player in a season in a landslide, with an immortal offensive player finishing in a distant second to him.
Again, this would feel even better if the Knicks had beaten the Pistons in Game 2 or if we weren't robbed of Brunson for a month at the end of the season due to that ugly sprained ankle against the Lakers. But any award a Knick wins is a beautiful thing, especially for The Captain who is already my favorite Knick of all-time despite not matching some of the accomplishments of the Knicks of the 90s that were a contender every year. Thank God for Leon Rose getting Jalen on the Knicks and thank God for Nico Harrison not offering Jalen the contract he wanted to stay in Dallas during his final season because there has never been another Knick in my lifetime that I felt more confident in taking a big shot than The Captain.
