The Second Episode Of The Last Of Us Season 2 Was Elite Television On Par With The Masterpieces Game Of Thrones Churned Out In Its Prime
Well that was heartbreaking. And horrifying. And....fucking awesome? Don't get me wrong, I hated every emotion I felt for the last 15 minutes or so during Sunday night's episode. But that's the thing. I haven't felt this level of emotions while watching a TV show since Game Of Thrones was absolutely cooking with A++++ episodes roughly a decade ago (which is absurd to think about) before it dropped off at the end.
That doesn't mean I'm happy right now. Far from it. In fact, the only thing I care about for the rest of the show is Ellie killing Abby. I don't give a fuck about Tommy, his family, the good people of Jackson, or to be honest any other humans on the planet who have long became the bad guys in a show with a mind-controlling fungus. As someone who has never played the video games and has no interest in doing so until the show is over, I now understand why people were so interested to see who HBO was going to cast as Abby since I imagine the actress is about to become the new Joffrey in terms of hatred.
Trust me, I don't throw Joffrey's name around lightly and all things considered, I hate much more hatred in my heart for him than I have for Abby. But even getting to the level where I'm throwing that shitty little prick's name in the blog shows the kind of job they did in the show along with a battle scene that felt like it was straight from The Blackwater in Thrones. The fact we casually got an episode of The Last Of Us that is on par with a Game Of Thrones penultimate episode just a week after a setup episode in the season premiere is so fucking awesome, no matter how much the events in said episode hurt.
Which takes me to my final point. I think The Last Of Us should officially be on the Thrones level when it comes to social media, in that you should be allowed to tweet about it as it happens because the live viewing is officially an event like a football game or big awards show. I chose to stay radio silent after all the chaos simply because it was WrestleMania and I can't fault people for watching The Grandaddy Of Them All live over a TV show that was just getting its season rolling. But I think live tweeting The Last Of Us is now fair game just like the people who live tweeted WrestleMania because we are dealing with elite TV that doesn't come around all that often and should feel like an event online.
Bob Fox and I will be hopping into the basement to discuss all things The Last Of Us like we do after every episode, so make sure to subscribe to the pod in order to get the episode as soon as it drops.
