The Pittsburgh Pirates Are Bringing Back One of the Great Fashion Trends of the 21st Century: Phiten Necklaces

The Pirates may be about to go on a run that will challenge the 1916 New York Giants for MLB's record win streak. The Buccos have struggled out of the gate, but they now have the power of one of the most influential pieces of fashion and enhanced on-field performance after Andrew McCutchen gifted the team Phiten necklaces.

If you weren't playing baseball or in middle school in the late 2000s and early 2010s, I am sorry you missed out on this incredible fad that has thankfully made its way back to the big leagues. I genuinely believed strapping up the Phiten before taking the field was going to get me drafted. And then eventually, they became so ubiquitous amongst the pre-teen male demographic that you just wore them to school and made them everyday wear rather than just an on-field statement.

And you clearly can't argue with the results. The Pirates had scored more than five runs just once so far this season before McCutchen handed out the legalized PED necklaces to his teammates and then they went out there and put up a 10-spot. This lineup is about to go off.

I would love nothing more than to see these necklaces make a comeback and inspire the next generation of youngsters out there. Everybody wants the ice cream cone sliding mitts and nonsense like that now, but back in the day you either had a Phiten or you sat on the bench. And those were mutually exclusive.
