Find a Woman Who'll Help You Run Your Football Program's Spring Practices the Way Bill Belichick Has
It's one of the true blessings of this life to be able to see a great artist sharing their gift with the world. Performers. Musicians. Painters. Sculptors. Craftsmen. Athletes. And of course, the noblest profession of all, teachers. Every time they pass their knowledge on to the next generation, the ripples spread out into the universe and makes it a better place.
Nowhere has that been more evident than seeing Bill Belichick, the foremost expert in his field, being able once again to impart his wisdom onto others, and help shape the leaders of tomorrow. The Year of Our Lord 2024 should always be remembered as the time when he was denied that opportunity. And by extension, we are all poorer for it.
But now you see that once again, he's a Man in Full. Doing exactly what he was born to do. Yes, he makes great plans and devises bold strategies. He's a master motivator, to be sure. But at the core of his being, he is that teacher we just mentioned. At his best when he's one-on-one with someone, working on the finer points, getting granular on the some subtle nuances of the game. The old position coach he was back in the late 1970s, but with the experience of Mr. Miyagi and the wisdom of Yoda. So being able to witness him working directly with football players once again is a pure good.
That said, even a mentor as sage and scholarly as Belichick cannot do it alone. Even the best educators need a teaching assistant. He just happens to have one. A woman who has his back and stands by his side at all times. Quite literally. Even in the middle of practice, Jordon Hudson is with him. Shoulder to shoulder. Heart to heart. And when necessary, hand in his sweatpants pocket:
It's not entirely clear over the blare of Cyndi Lauper, but it appears Jordon is working with a film crew and trying to make sure the love of her life is properly mic'd up. And given how he's been avoiding that sort of coverage for the past five decades or so, it's not surprising he'd be struggling with cords hanging out of his pocket and so on. And need her to help tuck them away.
I mean, just check out how perfectly styled her outfit is, with the white boots. Matching coat and skirt. Why, in less than a second you can spot which of First Couple of College Football is comfortable in front of the camera which one isn't. So it's good he has her. Otherwise the film crew would never get the footage they need.
Maybe I'm just projecting here, but I can't imagine Hudson't input ends with microphone cords and camera crews. She strikes me as the kind of assistant he's always surrounded himself with. Confidants. People whose judgment he trusts. Whom he'll listen to when it comes to all aspects of his football operation. She's like Ernie Adams with stiletto heels. Mike Lombardi with perfectly coiffed hair. Like Matt Patricia and Joe Judge, except she understands Belichick's offense.
Regardless, it's beautiful to see. I'm glad he's got yet another trusted advisor in his inner circle in Chapel Hill to go along with his sons Steve and Brian, Jamie Collins and the like. As I've said before and will continue to say, I'm in love with their love story. UNC is lucky to have them. And we're all fortunate to see their collaboration first hand.
