Dream Job: An Augusta National Member Is Playing In The Masters Alongside Tom Kim As A 'Marker' Because An Odd Number Of Players Made The Cut
This is it, this is the dream. Actually being a member of Augusta National is the dream, to the point I can't even wrap my brain around how that happens. But then you get to be the actual marker? That's the life. You get the call, go play 18 holes with Tom Kim in the 3rd round because there's an odd number of players. Not even sure what it's like to go out cold, but this is the ultimate story to tell your friends. Oh, you got to attend The Masters? That's cool. I'm a member and played 18 during the third round. Yeah, no big deal, I'm a scratch golfer, millionaire and the marker. Dream job all the way around.
There are a bunch of weird rules like he doesn't keep an 'official' score for himself, the caddy doesn't have his name on the bib and won't speak to media, but his pictures are out there. You still gotta keep score and see if you beat Tom Kim. In fact I'd say if he beats Tom Kim, he gets Kim's purse. Seems fair. Same goes for the next round if he plays again and with whoever he plays with.
Imagine getting the call Friday night. 'Yeah, hey, we need you to tee off tomorrow at 9:50 in the morning. No big deal, just playing 18 holes during Round 3 of The Masters. Don't suck.' At least that's how I assume the call would go. Gotta figure out how to be the marker in waiting. It's all I can think about now.
