After Another Embarrassing Rangers Loss, Coach Peter Laviolette Admitted He Doesn't Even Go Into The Locker Room After Games Anymore
This has got to be one of the most embarrassing quotes I've ever seen from a head coach. How does he not get fired on the spot for saying that? I mean I guess he is coaching the most embarrassing team in the NHL, the sad and lowly NY Rangers who are limping to the finish line of yet another pathetic season, so nobody is shocked. The Rangers have been garbage all season, Chris Drury is a garbage GM, and Laviolette has openly given up on his squad. Woof, man. Woof. It's bad enough the Rangers only have 4 Stanley Cups in their existence and 3 of them came in 1928, 1933, and 1940, but this is just another level of pathetic. This team doesn't even compete anymore. They don't even show up anymore. And their coach is mentally in Cancun with games left on the schedule. All in all, a real shame.
And the development of the players who were supposed to lead the Rangers to the Cup has been about an F-. Kaapo Kakko who was taken 2nd overall by the Rangers in 2019 is now in Seattle. Alexis Lafreniere who was taken 1st overall by the Rangers in 2020 has 16 goals and 27 assists, good for a whoppin' 43 points, in his 5th disappointing NHL season. He has 3 goals in his last 30 games. What a bummer. And of the 3 first rounders the Rangers had in the 2018 draft, only K’Andre Miller is still with the team, and he stinks too. A quick Twitter search tells me Rangers fans are fed up with him and ready to move on. Quite a bummer.
Oh and they also traded their captain Jacob Trouba earlier this year. Just a funny little thing that happened that we shouldn't forget about.
It's been talked about but it does need repeating every so often- the Rangers are the most pathetic franchise in all of sports. Keep in mind those Stanley Cups mentioned earlier- the Rangers didn't win 3 Cups during the "Original Six Era", they won ZERO. The Original Six didn't start until the 1942 season and it lasted until league expansion before the1967 season, and the Rangers won a grand total of ZERO Cups in that time. Their 3 Cups came in 1928, 1933, and 1940 when they played against people with polio, since the vaccine wasn't invented by Jonas Salk until 1955. So think about how crazy that is and how bad historically the Rangers are to have zero actual Cups once hockey was a legitimate North American sport.
Ah I just did more research and thought this was a good summary from Reddit:
Reddit - The Original Six Era as it's called today a 25 year period from the 1942-43 season thru the 1966-67 season. That 1940 cup, won in a season where the total viewership of games on tv that year was 300, was won before the Original Six Era.
Here's my favorite part of their futility during the years. If you were to randomly select a team to win the cup each of those 25 season there is 98.95% chance that the Rangers would have won the cup at least once. There was a 1.05% percent chance that they wouldn't luck their way into one cup in an era when 2/3 of the league made the playoffs.
Even worse, the Rangers made the playoffs 7 times in those 25 seasons and again, 4 of the 6 teams made the playoffs. 1957-58 they had their best finish, ending the regular season in 2nd place (yes they never finished first in the regular season in the Original Six years) and 1955-56 was the only other season the finished in the top half of the league. Let me reiterate that for a second. The Rangers made the playoffs 7 out of 25 times when they competed with 5 other teams. 5 of those 7 the snuck in as the 4th seed and only had home ice advantage once, never finishing in first. They also finished in dead last 9 of those 25 years.
Next time one of your Ranger fan friends would like to bring up the mid to late 90s and mid to late 2000s, you can bring these stats up. They are basically the Cleveland Indians of hockey.
EDIT: I did some more reading on the Original Six years. The Rangers won 1 playoff series. ONE.
It's baffling that the Rangers fanbase chirp and beak off like they are some beacon of excellence in hockey. They should be louder than I am about how bad their franchise is. They should be ashamed and demand change. They are the Cleveland Browns of hockey but peacock around like they are the Tom Brady Patriots. It's legitimately crazy how they act compared to how the team is on the ice. That 1994 Cup was over 30 years ago, and if that makes you feel old, well it should.
In closing, fuck the Rangers.
