Good Reminder That Duke Still Isn't Likable - Coach K Is Now Getting Credit For Being Retired And Letting Jon Scheyer Run The Program
Perfect. This is exactly what I needed to see so people start remembering why we hate Duke. Too much lately about how this Duke team is likable and how they are different. No, you see Duke on the jersey, their blue and white, and you should be hating them. Luckily we have people giving K credit for being retired.
[Source] - Despite the program being run the past three seasons by Jon Scheyer, a star on Duke's 2010 national championship team who later spent nine years as Coach K's assistant, and Krzyzewski maintaining not just a residence locally, but an office on campus, the now-78-year-old has been to practice just a few times and didn't attend a single game until this season.
It has all been part of Krzyzewski's plan to step into the shadows and allow his old program to become Scheyer's program by avoiding the hovering presence of a legend.
It is also, many believe, a reason that Duke is not just back in the Final Four, but the betting favorite to clip the nets Monday, under the 38-year-old Scheyer.

Lance King. Getty Images.Sorry for being a facts guy, but it's a lie to say K hasn't attended a game previous to this year. I agree to a point that Scheyer isn't as easy to hate as K, yet. It comes with time. But to say Duke is likable is a flat out lie. You don't just stop making fun of a fanbase or thinking differently because K's protege took over. It's only fitting that as we get ready for a Final Four that articles start to drop about Coach K being so good at being retired. Credit to him for not still running the program he left? That's what we're doing here, right?
Anyone with a brain can acknowledge this Duke team is good. That's not the argument here. It's the fact people are starting to lose the fact it's still Duke. There's been plenty of good Duke teams, we never made excuses as to why America should like them. That's not changing now. I will hate Duke until the day I die, like any good, reasonable human should.
