Thoughts And Prayers Go Out To This Hawks Fan That Completely Destroyed His Knee While Participating In The Halftime Contest
Talk about things you absolutely hate to see. I'm not even saying that to be a dick, I genuinely feel awful for this Hawks fan. You never want to see anyone get injured, and as someone who becomes more washed up by the day, this exact scenario hits even harder. All this dude wanted was a chance to have his moment and maybe win a sweet prize, and instead all he got was a destroyed knee.
A few weeks ago I had a blog about a fan burying a halfcourt shot for a shit ton of money, and in that blog I talked about even without the make, the fact that he completed the moment and walked away injury free is a win. You could airball, but at least you came out of it clean which really, is the most important thing. What happened here with this Hawks fan is what I'm talking about. This is the other side of that coin, and my heart breaks for the guy. Talk about a wave of emotion and how quickly your life can change. That is quite the matzah ball if we're being honest. The highest of highs ready to show out in front of an entire arena and then boom, disaster.
I'm sure you sign some sort of waiver when you do these things right? I have to imagine everyone involved in these contests protects themselves legally, but if not, then that's the only saving grace. My guess is there is a waiver, which is what makes this all so brutal.
This is why I'm not sure I could ever participate in any of these things. My achilles is sore every time I roll out of bed in the morning. My back started to hurt while I gave my dog a bath just the other day. Even if it's a 1 in 1 million chance that something like this happens, that's enough for me. Granted, nobody has ever asked me to participate in something like this, so who's to say what I would do if that were to happen, but I certainly know my immediate feeling is to have some reservations about it. Maturing is knowing your limitations, and as I get older, the last thing I need is an out-of-nowhere exploded knee. No thank you.
So here's to that Hawks fan, may you have a speedy recovery and an easy rehab. Good luck.
