Browns Owner Jimmy Haslem Says They Took A "Big Swing and a Miss" On Deshaun Watson And Now Have To Dig Out Of That Hole

Oh my god, he actually said it. Out loud. Every single person in the sporting world has been saying it for three years now, but no one within the Browns organization had the stones to say it. And now the head man, Jimmy Haslem himself, has confirmed it. Trading three 1st round picks, as well as a 3rd rounder....and also a 4th rounder....for Deshaun Watson and a 5th round, was a huge swing and a miss.

And it's not just what we gave up. It's also what the Texans, who are thriving as an organizing, did with our picks while we sat on our thumbs on day one of the NFL Draft each year:

Folks it is not hyperbole to say this will go down as the worst trade in all of sports. And we still have him on the books for two more years. But with ANOTHER injury that has him out for the season, the Browns appear to be officially moving on. Whether we go Cam Ward or Shedeur or even Kirk Cousins remains to be seen, but it looks like the "digging ourselves out of the hole" means that Deshaun Watson is done in Cleveland.

I love what Jimmy Haslem finally said today. One gripe though: it seemed like he missed a key point in his reasoning.

Listen, it's flat out wrong to look at this tweet and say he's not right. People are acting like this is making excuses, but it is true. Deshaun has been injured 3 times in the last two seasons. He never plays. BUT LET'S BE CLEAR….when he does play, he is completely checked out mentally. The fact of the matter is we overpaid for a dude with a bunch of baggage, he failed, and then the entire fanbase (if they hadn't already) turned on him…and he gave up. The Browns are an absolute joke, but finally, at long last, Jimmy Haslem has admitted it. So it looks like we're gonna take another big swing on a QB at the #2 pick in the draft, and if we miss again, the entire house is getting cleaned out.
