'Our Guys Stay' - Jim Nantz Started Celebrating With Houston After Making The Final Four, Rightfully Talked About How America Should Love This Team
We all know about Jim Nantz and being a Houston grad, Houston fan, roommate of Freddie Couples, all of that. But now that he can start his 11-year Masters retirement tour and already retired from college hoops he can be like the rest of us. A lunatic fan, who just wants to see their team win. It's really the best person to be in March. You live and die with your team, you just want to see them win, give everyone another week to talk about them. Now, we're all not Jim Nantz. We all don't get to join in on the celebration:
I don't care how famous you are, who you are, how old you are, whatever. You get invited by a head coach that helped save your program and brought you back to one of the most dominant teams in the country, you go and celebrate. That's a dream. Nantz also played a role here. He was key in helping get Houston to the Big 12, something that needed to happen:
Then I saw this:
You know what? He's right. America should love this Houston team. People, most of who aren't watching every game throughout the year, love to scream about the transfer portal or how Houston is boring because they don't score. Well, this is a team built on guys Sampson brought in and developed. Milos Uzan is really the only transfer for this season. LJ Cryer has been in the program for a couple years now, same with Mylik Wilson. For the most part it's either multi-year transfers or guys like J'Wan Roberts who is a 6th year senior.

I love this Houston team. I'll admit it right here, right now. I want them to win a title. They have been the most consistent team in the country this year. They are 33-4 with ONE loss in regulation. They went 19-1 in the Big 12, they just run through teams with their defense and just so happen to have the 3rd best 3point percentage in the country. Yes, they play slow and suffocate teams but they will shoot it with anyone. I think they are the best team in the country when you look at resume, consistency, whatever. They have it all. They also needed this trip to the Final Four because of how they are viewed. They lost on a buzzer beater to Michigan in 2018, they lost on a near buzzer beater to Kentucky in 2019, in 2021 they finally made a Final Four but people want to downplay it because of COVID bubble and playing double digit seeds, Jamal Shead got hurt last year and cost them a Final Four. This year? They did this:
So, yeah, Jim Nantz can talk his shit. This is why you become a fan and help Houston get to the Big 12.
