A Massive Fight Broke Out Between The Pistons And The Timberwolves That Ended With Five Total Players And Two Coaches Getting Ejected
Well, there's something you certainly don't see every day! Usually, NBA fights consist of a bunch of guys all doing the "HOLLLDDD MMEEEE BAAACKKK" routine in what ends up being a gigantic nothing burger. It's not often you see players actually get into it, and even more rare that you see a fight bleed into the stands that has both players and coaches all going at it. While this certainly wasn't to the level of a Malice At The Palice situation, it's no surprise that a team like the Pistons was involved in a dust up like this, especially Isaiah Stewart
That toughness is part of what makes the Pistons so good. In this particular instance, it does seem like Naz Reid had an issue with that foul from Rob Holland, but it's not like it was all that egregious or anything, he just swiped down on a drive with a play I feel like you see a thousand times in an NBA game. For whatever reason, Reid had a problem with it and let him know about it, but it's DiVincenzo that gets things going, and once that happens, all hell broke loose.
All of a sudden, he was in the crowd and Marcus Sasser/Isaiah Stewart were going after him. Seems like a bit of an overreaction by DiVincenzo in that instance, but shit happens. This is an important game for both sides, and sometimes a guy loses his marbles and starts a brawl.
The fact that the coaches were also going at it is what brings a great element to this fight. Usually, the coaches are the peacemakers, but not here. Sometimes, you have to go down for your guys, even if they're in the wrong. You knew JB Bickerstaff was going to stick up for his guys, and just like the time he went off on the media in defense of his players, I'm sure they're going to love him even more after this.
On the Wolves side, any type of suspension for Reid or DiVincenzo is a pretty big deal given where they are in the standings. As of now they sit in the 7th spot in the West, but could easily be passed by the Clippers. At that point, your best case scenario is facing OKC in Round 1. That's not great! So, while these games in March are largely useless for some teams out there, that is not the case for everyone, especially the Wolves. All of their final games matter, and getting in a fight over something as trivial as that foul play on Naz Reid is not exactly the smartest thing I've ever seen.
No chance Adam Silve is cool with any sort of fight going into the stands, so you have to think everyone involved is getting some sort of suspension. Even if it's for a game or two, with so few games left in the schedule and how tight the playoff seeding is, that could end up being pretty significant.
