Chet Hanks Has Dropped A New Country Song + Forrest Gump Themed Music Video Featuring Tom Hanks

Not the worst song I've ever heard. The chorus is catchy enough. I'm not especially hip to country music, but I'm almost positive I've heard this song before. Not that it's a complete rip off of a different song, the name of which I can't quite put my finger on. But I swear I've heard a million different version of that "You better RUN!!!..." hook before. But it's a serviceable song nonetheless. Is it a good enough song for them to play their one and only "Get Chet's dad to sit on a bench and make Forrest Gump references to assure the song goes at least a little bit viral" card on?

That remains to be seen. You can only press the Tom Hanks button so many times. I don't quite see 'You Better Run' in Apple's Top 100 yet. It doesn't seem to be on Spotify's New Music Friday playlist. The song is certainly no 'White Boy Summer'.

And it surely doesn't live up to the Chet Haze classic… the Northwestern University themed Wiz Khalifa Black & Yellow Remix, 'White & Purple'

Goosebumps. Do you know how hard it is to make a rap about Northwestern seem cool? You can't. Clearly. Chet Hanks/Haze was nowhere close. But credit to him for going up there. I have an immense amount of respect for not-especially-good white rappers who are willing to get on stage in front of very few people and rap an original song. There's such an extraordinarily high probability of that footage aging terribly. Even if you're a pretty good rapper, it's still almost guaranteed to come off looking so awkward. I tip my cap to anybody with the stones to go through with that.

But apparently Chet Hanks has grown out of his rapping phrase. He's moved onto singing country music in a way that only kinda looks like he's rapping. And he's made up with his dad. Great to see the two of them are back on speaking terms since Chet called Tom out for giving him a toxic upbringing.

Now the two are making music videos together, and having long text conversations about Drake's possible pedophilia.

It's actually kinda surprising to me that Chet Hanks didn't completely go off the deep end a few years ago. There was a minute there during/after the White Boy Summer era when he was DM'ing strangers (allegedly) asking for money to pay his bills…

That was quite the low point. But look at him now. Making viral Forest Gump themed country music videos and starring in a Netflix show.

He's putting together a nice little respectable acting career. Amazing what someone is capable of with a little rehab, a little hard work, and a little bit of Tom Hanks as your dad.  Keep it up Chet. And maybe bring back White Boy Summer. I know that was probably a dark time for you, but as far as I'm concerned, your White Boy Summer/Jamaican accent era produced some of your best work to date.
