This Fully Customizable LED Glass NBA Practice Court Is Easily One Of The Coolest Things In Sports
We live at a time when the advancements in technology are truly getting insane. Sure we don't have flying cars yet or hoverboards like we were promised decades ago, but whatever. As someone who is from the last generation that knows what life was like pre-internet/cell phones/etc, it is wild to take a step back and think about just how far technology has advanced in only 20+ years in pretty much all aspects of life.
When it comes to the world of sports/professional sports, things are no different. How you consume games, League Pass/Sunday Ticket/RedZone, apps, digital image trading cards, streaming, virtual reality capabilities, the list goes on and on.
And if we're being honest, nothing has really blown my dick off when it comes to basketball technology advancement. I'm not really interested in putting on some sort of VR headset so I can watch a game courtside. Every year Adam Silver usually shows off new technology during All Star Weekend, and in the past we'd had things like the future of NBA jerseys
which I guess were pretty cool. But it's been 5 years since that video and unless I'm missing something, this isn't a thing. Last year we learned about the NBA + AI
And then this season we saw some robots and whatnot being involved in the Warriors workouts/practices etc
But you know what? In my opinion, the coolest advancement in basketball tech isn't any of those things above. For my money, the coolest thing we have now in 2025 is what goes on down in Orlando
If you remember, we saw during the All Star Weekend how the NBA was experimenting changing the court/designs with LED lights, but to me this is so much cooler. Not to be dramatic, but that's cool as hell. Being able to change the court to any floor you want is awesome, and when you think about it is a great way to prepare mentally. If you have a big road game, why not load that floor into this software just so your body can get used to it? Half of believing is seeing, and if you practice on a court that you'll eventually be playing in, I think that could help. Or, if you just want to feel at home, you load your own practice court on there. Very awesome.
But the drawing the plays on the court is what I find to be the most impressive. Sure I don't have any need for something like that in my own life, but that doesn't make it less cool.
Seeing something like this is unfortunately just another reminder that I am simply way too poor. If I were ever not poor to the point where I could build a basketball court in my own house, I'd 10000% use a floor like this over standard wood. You're telling me I can rotate between the floors of every era of the Boston Garden? Take all my money.
At the same time, seeing all these advancements in sports technology also makes me pretty annoyed that for certain things, we're still operating in the Stone Age. A strike zone, first downs/ball placement etc. You can't tell me all this fancy advanced technology shit outside of those things exists yet there's nothing that could be done there.
