College Hoops Biggest Rumor Dropped Today: Bill Self Was Reportedly 'Seriously' Considering Leaving Kansas For Oklahoma State This Past Offseason

In case you're wondering why Bill Self would even consider leaving for Oklahoma State, that's where he played college basketball. Now I can't say I'm familiar with Berry Tramel, seems like he's been in the Oklahoma game forever. That said, this just opened up the biggest college basketball rumor. Bill Self was reportedly considering the Oklahoma State job this past offseason.

Here's the thing. It's very weird for this story to drop now. Kansas is coming off the worst loss of the Bill Self era. Kansas fans (granted it's social media and not everything is real) have been fairly vocal about ready to move on from the Self era, despite the fact he won a title a mere three years ago. He's never had worse than a 4-seed in the NCAA Tournament and has dominated the Big 12 for basically his entire career.

If there was a world where the Kansas and Kentucky coach left for another conference school in the same offseason, college hoops would have been completely off the rails. You're talking about the two winningest programs in the sport and their coaches leaving for lesser schools in the same conference. All I know is it's a little weird for this story to drop now. It makes people start to freak out a bit. If Bill Self wants to come to Oklahoma State, let's be honest. They move on from whoever is coaching there now.

Oh and I should note that Kansas plays Oklahoma State at Phog Allen tomorrow. I'm sure no one will ask him about this before or after the game. Can't wait to see his response as he has to basically say it wasn't a thing and around and around we go with the rumor game. But, yeah, this would have been and is an insane what-if in the sport. No idea who Kansas goes after, Self has been there forever.
