Hammers, Walk-Offs, Overtime - TGL's Triple-Header Yesterday Was Incredible TV, Exactly What The League Is Designed To Be
Agree, Riggs. It was pretty sick. In fact it was perfect television. A triple-header where every match was close, had the viral moments and showed every single guy here bought into this is what this league needed. It's what it was designed to be. Fun, easy to watch, throw it on the TV and give us something different. Sure, I'm the target audience for this league. I watch every PGA Tournament, I throw on the TGL and even get my kids to sit down and watch it. But it's the fact we're seeing the players show some personality and have fun with it. It's not serious, it's not supposed to be, but it's competitive.
We had a bunch of stuff yesterday. Walk-offs, chip-ins, near aces and the new hammer rule. The new hammer rule - each team gets 3 opportunities to throw a hammer, if the other team accepts it the hole is worth 2 points, if they decline it the team wins the hole for 1. There's some strategy involved on when to use it, when to save it, when to accept it. During the late match you could hear Rory and Keegan Bradley breaking down the last 2 hammers they had and when to throw it.
Remember, these guys just got done playing The Genesis and flew out to play in this. There was no bitching, every guy showed up and made sure to put on a show. Started with Tommy Fleetwood in warmups
Then almost doing it during the match
Absurd. I'd love to have that feeling just once, don't need it twice in a day. You can tell the guys are having fun with it all too
They took advantage of the holiday, nothing on during the afternoon and delivered. This is what the league should be built on. Let the guys be a little loose, let them talk and have some personality. Of course the close matches helped, but it's a league that's supposed to feel different. Oh and we get Tiger tonight.
