We Have Our First Look At Matt Damon In Christopher Nolan's 'THE ODYSSEY'

After a lot of back and forth about whether the actual star or this movie would be Matt Damon or Tom Holland - it appears we were all right originally when we figured it'd be Damon as Odysseus and mostly likely Tom Holland as his son, Telemachus. I suppose Holland could still be playing a younger version of Odysseus, but I wouldn't count on it. 

As far as this first look goes, though, I think it looks pretty sweet (standard spartan/gladiator style look) and I'm happy that Damon is rocking a beard. As I said in my last blog about this movie, I've been having a hard time not just seeing Matt Damon as 'Matt Damon' in all of his roles lately - particularly 'Oppenheimer' and 'Air' - and maybe some facial hair (and a helmet/face covering) will help out with that. I'm sure it won't be a real issue with Nolan behind this, though. I got over it eventually in 'Oppenheimer' and I have no doubts the same will happen in 'The Odyssey'.

By the way, is anyone else shocked that they're full on shooting this movie already? It feels like we're still getting casting announcements weekly, such as Mia Goth just a few days ago....

....but here we are, already getting promotional photos from the set of Matt Damon as Odysseus! It almost feels surreal that we're full speed ahead on the next Nolan movie! How exciting!

'THE ODYSSEY' is currently slated to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
