Wemby Brought A Book To Read Before The All Star Game And Nikola Jokic Could Barely Contain His Embarrassment

We've seen a lot of new ideas from the NBA in an effort to boost fan interest and engagement these last few years. The Play In Tournament, the NBA Cup, a new All Star format, full colored courts, Adam Silver has tried it all. Some have worked better than others, we'll see how this All Star change ends up looking tonight even though my guess is it'll be like every other All Star Game where players only try at the end.

Instead of trying those things, perhaps the real answer is to have a camera following Nikola Jokic around at all times. Especially at a time like this during an event you know he most definitely does not give two shits about. To help illustrate my point, may I present Jokic's reaction to learning Wemby brings a book to read before every game he plays

I'm not sure what was better. The reaction, or the fact that Wemby is 1000% serious. You have to remember, Wemby comes from the LeBron Era. Nobody loves to fake read before games quite like LeBron, he's the greatest to ever do it in that regard. The thing is, I bet Wemby actually does read before a game. He certainly does something to get his mind right, and the results speak for themselves. He is on record saying he's going to try like hell during this game and that he's taking it as a business trip and blah blah blah, so maybe this is just how he locks in.

I think what I love most about Jokic's reaction is that you have to remember this is a dude who rolls out of bed and is the greatest player on the planet. Basketball is maybe 10th on the list of things Jokic cares about, yet he's the most dominant offensive force the game has maybe ever seen. He certainly is not "reading books" before games to lock in. For him, he just has to show up and sort of try for 3 quarters until it's a blowout and the next thing you know he's dropped 35/18/16 and made 3 3PM while resting another 4th quarter.

What this clip also told me is I need way more Jokic footage in my life. He's never going to do a Netflix doc or anything like that, so there should be someone following his every move during All Star Weekend. Between that clip, what we saw from Jokic after he won his title, this feels like a no brainer. Fewer stupid All Star changes and more All Star Jokic footage. We deserve it.
