Incredible: Illinois Had A Celebration For Terrence Shannon's Career Last Night, Hung His Jersey To The Rafters Upside Down
Nailed it! Nothing like showing up to your jersey retirement, surrounded by friends and family, the entire crowd applauding you only for the jersey to be perfectly hung upside down. At least the AD knew they fucked it all up
I just can't stop laughing at the image. The best is it was hanging up like that:
An absolutely absurd image. It's also 100% the reason Illinois lost this game to Michigan State:
Shout out Izzo for passing Knight and becoming the winningest coach in the Big 10, but that takes a back seat now. You can't do that and have a jersey retirement go this wrong in the same game. And for anyone asking why TJ Shannon is getting his jersey in the rafters it's pretty clear if you're an All-American you get your jersey in the rafters. That's fairly normal in college basketball. It's not a retired number or anything like that, just recognition.
I need to know what Shannon said when he pulled that rope to unveil his jersey upside down. I think you just gotta laugh it off at that point. Lean all the way into it. I still have no idea how someone doesn't double check that, this isn't a blog title or proofreading, this is a jersey that's pretty easy to tell is upside down.
