The Indiana Hoops Coaching Search Now Has Curt Cignetti On Twitter Responding To Reports That He's Pushing For Them To Hire Mark Byington

We're just getting started in the IU coaching search. I have to admit, I'm a sucker for a coaching search. I may or may not have gotten addicted to tracking planes and reading every single rumor during UK's search last year. Couldn't sleep in fear of missing someone at an airport seeing if Scott Drew's plane was there or not. Now we're getting it with IU. Brad Stevens seemed to turn down the job yesterday. Not shocking. So now you start getting to the next names. Adam Zagoria, who has been around forever, put this out there. A report that Curt Cignetti was pushing for IU to hire Mark Byington. They were together at JMU, the connection is there obviously.

Except, well, Curt responded:

The not true is hilarious. Sorry, Zags but funny is funny. I actually do wish Cignetti confirmed he was. I love the idea of the football coach coming in and helping dictate who IU is hiring. It wouldn't even be a bad hire, that's the thing. Mark Byington is fucking awesome. He's turned Vandy around in 1 year. They are a legit Tournament team, a year after he got JMU into the second round. I do love Zagoria's response

We're still in the middle of the season here. There's a chance - granted, long, long shot - of IU making the Tournament with a coach 'stepping down' (he was fired). IU keeps missing on head coaches, they've had minimal success since the early 90s. What's the problem of Cignetti coming in with some advice? Has to be better than 'give Mike Woodson another year.' Need this to keep getting off the rails as fast as possible. Dusty May already had to make a comment, Brad Stevens did and now football head coach Curt Cignetti. Get the soccer coach involved next. They win some national titles there, bring in all the names.
