The LSU Tigers Are Gonna Be SEC Champs
Opening Day of college baseball is upon us!
Former Ole Miss National Champion Peyton Chattagnier & I broke down the SEC to get the fans ready.
Here are some of my picks.....
SEC Champion- LSU
Coach Jay Johnson has destroyed the transfer portal and this team has talent everywhere. Kade Anderson steps into the role of Friday night ace and is in line for a spectacular season. There are tons of other power arms everywhere and an elite closer in Gavin Guidry.
The offense is highlighted by 1st baseman Bear Jones who could hit 30 bombs this season. The Tigers are 5-6 deep in the outfield and everyone can hit.
LSU edges out Texas A&M, Tennessee & Arkansas for the title.
Sleeper Team- Ole Miss
The Rebs have fallen on hard times the last two seasons after winning the 2022 National Title. Ole Miss is picked to finish 15th of 16 teams preseason.
But it is time for the comeback!
Omaha hero Hunter Elliot is finally back after two lost seasons to be the Friday night ace and all reports are good. Riley Maddox & Mason Nichols join Elliot in a stout pitching rotation. Pitching coach Joel Mangum was brought in from the Cleveland Guardians and will work magic with this staff.
The offense has potential too and I am banking on the Rebs scoring enough runs behind an elite staff to get back to the NCAA Tourney.
Overrated- Georgia
Coach Wes Johnson did a spectacular job in year 1 with the Bulldogs almost making it to the CWS. But superstar Charlie Condon was a once in a lifetime player and is irreplaceable. There are questions about this pitching staff as well even with a lineup that looks solid.
The Bulldogs take a step back this year.
Player of The Year- Bear Jones (LSU)
This was a brutally tough decision with all of the talent in this conference. Texas A&M OF Jace LaViolette could be the 1st pick in the draft. There are also a slew of Friday night aces who have a case.
But Bear Jones is in line for a 30+ homer season and has INSANE power. LSU's lineup is super deep and there should be plenty of RBI opportunities. The Bear gets it done.....
A whopping 15 of the 16 SEC teams have a legitimate argument to make the NCAA Tourney. Mizzou is the odd man out.
The SEC has won the national title the last 5 seasons in Omaha and I would be shocked if this year is not number six.
