It'll Work This Time - The NBA Is Meeting With The Players On Sunday To Basically Beg Them To 'Compete' During The All-Star Game

Oh, you're going to meet with the players to tell them to compete? Sounds familiar 

That was a year ago. No one gave a shit in the All-Star Game and yet again here we are. There was a time the All-Star Game was awesome. We weren't sitting there watching lock down defense for 48 minutes. But we saw guys caring, especially in the second half. You have your fun early and then we see the best players on the planet actually play basketball. Cool, basically everyone agreed that worked. Then at some point, players stopped giving a shit. No competition, just get some cardio in and a shootaround then get out of there. 

Here's how you get these guys to care. Players have to put up their own money. Winning team gets the pot. That's the only way I can see players actually caring about this game. That or just do what the NHL is doing. I don't know how you get NBA players to care about that but I'll watch USA vs Europe in some sort of Ryder Cup style basketball game. Everything we've known about All-Star weekend is dead. The dunk contest isn't fun anymore and big names aren't playing in it. The 3-point contest, while it gets the big names, isn't drawing people in. The game itself sucks. 

I'd love to see this meeting. They apparently do something like this every year and we're talking about the death of All-Star weekend. How bad can the speech be? How little do people care? This is where I'll take one of those documentary cameras in there just to see what the players say. 

I miss caring about the All-Star Game. That's ultimately what it comes down to for me. It was perfect on a Sunday night with nothing else on. You got the cool plays early and then actual basketball. For those few minutes we got to see the best players actually playing basketball. Now it's hardly on the TV, tune in if I can't find something else to watch and be annoyed seeing guys launch 50 footers for no reason to make the score 176-152. If that's going to be the score, just make it Rock n Jock, so we get that back in our lives. That was awesome.
