The First Trailer For HBO's New Docuseries "Celtics City" Has Dropped And As Expected It Looks Sensational

When I think back to all the reasons why the Celts winning last year's NBA title was so awesome, it's hard to pick a favorite. Al Horford got his ring, the ending of their 16 year title drought, Tatum/Brown being stamped as Celtics legends forever, Mazzulla shutting his haters up, passing the Lakers in total titles (we all know they really only have 12), capping off arguably a top 6 season the NBA has ever seen (fact, not opinion), the list goes on and on.
Not to be overlooked, one of the best parts of their run was the creation of ALL the behind the scenes documentaries/docuseries. As I've blogged a thousand times, I am a big time slut for pretty much any basketball documentary. I don't care what it is or who it's about, they almost always deliver. So between the "All In" Series, the NBA's 8 part docuseries, Netflix's NBA show etc, it's been nothing but Celtics porn everywhere you look since June.
While all that stuff was coming out, we heard that Bill Simmons and HBO were working on perhaps the greatest Celtics doc of them all. Something that wasn't just focused on the 2024 Celtics title, but the last 8 decades of Celtics basketball. I didn't need to see a single frame to know this was going to be incredible, and now that we officially have the trailer I feel confident in saying it looks even better than I expected.

I mean, my goodness. My goosebumps have goosebumps. Granted it's basically impossible to create something like this and for me not to love it, but this series objectively looks incredible. Say what you want about Simmons in 2025, but that man can produce documentaries. If anyone was tasked with creating something like this, he's probably at the top of my list of people I would want involved.
Considering how good the recent Celts docs have been since June, there's a lot of pressure on this one to live up to the hype and frankly, I don't see how it doesn't. I understand that unless you're a Celtics fan you probably don't give a shit about this, but to that I would ask why you even clicked on this blog? This isn't for you, it's for us. I guess it's also for anyone else who appreciates NBA history and one of the greatest franchises in the history of sports, but you know what I mean.
I also love the angle of not just making this about the 2024 Celtics. We have those already. Making it a larger scope and covering the entire history of the franchise, the league, the country and how everything blended together is a great angle to take and provides us with so much Celtics porn I'm not sure I'm going to be able to handle myself. The highest of highs and the lowest of lows, there's really nothing quite like what we've seen from the Celts since their inception. The dominance, the fact that multiple young franchise players died, another franchise player getting stabbed, the Rick Pitino Dark Ages, there's truly never been anything like it in NBA history.
So in the least surprising news of all time, consider me IN on this series. The best news of all might be that it's coming out on 3/3 which will be here before you know it. Personally, I would have liked it to come out during the All Star Break so we all had something to watch during the break, but whatever. At least it's not like the Sox Netflix documentary that covers the 2024 season but is being released in April 2025. What a dumb idea that is, but what else is new when it comes to that team.
