UFC 312 Just Kicked Off With An Immediate 19-Second KO
It's only 10:51am in Sydney, Australia and the knockouts have already started at UFC 312! Quillan Salkill just put Anshul Jubli down HARD in his UFC debut, and although the stoppage might've been early - the punch that ended it was beautiful. Just a perfect right hand after feinting the jab. Textbook.
Jubli protested the referee stepping in right away, and I think he has a case for it being premature being he came to/shot for the leg of Salkill immediately, but the initial shelling up definitely looked bad....
It's the MMA equivalent of a bang-bang play at home plate for the referee, and I understand why he made the decision that he did, though it may look rough on a replay. You could argue he regained consciousness and went into desperation mode in time, but you can't argue we wasn't knocked out and concussed there. It's probably for the best the fight was stopped before that happened again.
We've got a bunch of Aussies on the card down undah tonight, and a bunch of underdogs I really like….
It's obviously not the greatest PPV in the world, but it's always the under the radar ones that overdeliver - and one of my favorite narratives this event has to offer is the debut of UFC Featherweight Champ Ilia Topuria's brother, Aleksandre, against fellow UFC newcomer Colby Thicknesse - a friend of Alexander Volkanovski. Ilia Topuria and Alexander Volkanovski will be in their fighters' respective corners for that one, facing off as coaches after fighting each other last year….
Even though there's no bad blood between em - I love this shit. You know that competitive fire is still there.
