“Fuck You, And You Can Quote Me On That” - Back To The Future Writer Bob Gale Says There Will Never Be A Fourth Movie

This quote stopped me in my tracks and cracked me up when it came across my timeline. It's just so blunt and straight to the point I couldn't believe it - you don't usually hear anyone involved in a franchise as big as 'Back to the Future' talking like that. Hollywood loves to give out a bunch of "maybe's" and "never-say-never's" all the time, but not Bob Gale. You want a fourth film? Fuck you.

I got into 'Back to the Future' pretty late in life so I don't personally have a nostalgic connection to the series, and honestly I wouldn't be opposed to them dipping back into that universe (so long as it isn't a straight up remake) - but I respect the hell out of just letting the past be the past too. 'Back to the Future' already covered time travel in every direction, already has a polarizing sequel that split its audience down the middle with the third one, and obviously given Michael J Fox's current condition, it might be difficult to get him involved - and if that were the case, what's even the point?

Plus, reboots/legacy sequels are pretty hit-or-miss. Sometimes you get a 'Creed' or a 'Mad Max: Fury Road' or a 'Blade Runner 2049' or a 'Top Gun: Maverick' and other times you get something like those recent 'Jurassic World' or 'Terminator' movies. They've got a high ceiling and suuuuuuper low floor. Trying to recapture the feelings that the 'Back to the Future' trilogy evoked almost forty years ago with the next generation might not be worth "ruining the childhoods" of all the baby boomers on the internet.

We discussed this quote, the new Fantastic Four trailer, the new Jurassic World trailer, and more with Tommy Smokes this week in My Mom's Basement....
