Belichick's Girlfriend Corrects the Record: That Was Her OWN Championship Ring on Her Hand Last Night

When you are a true champion, a winner in your chosen field of endeavor and in life, when the lions in their dens tremble at the sound of your approach, you can take a little mockery. It's why the great kings throughout history kept a Court Jester around, to speak truth in a way no one else could.

So when Bill Belichick was given a little good-natured ribbing from Snoop Dogg, he took it in the spirit in which it was given. And responded with a hearty laugh and a regal smile. That's what the great men of history do.

But just because Belichick chose to react to Snoop's comedy with benevolence doesn't mean the rest of us are entitled to make up our own facts. So when we all assumed he gave one of his Super Bowl rings to his queen for the evening:

... we were leaving out one very important truth.

Jordon Hudson is a champion in her own right. That's a fact she took to her Instagram to remind us all. And set the record straight:

Let us not forget that. I say this not as a proud fellow alum of Hudson's alma mater Bridgewater State University (it was "College" when I went there), but as someone who prides myself on accuracy. More importantly, as someone who values success in all its forms. In Voltaire's words, "Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well."

And I for one appreciate that Hudson is a champion in her own right. She's not merely basking in the reflected glow of her boyfriend's success. She's reminding the world that she herself knows what it's like to succeed. To sacrifice, pay the price, compete, struggle against adversity, and prove yourself to be the best there is in the game.

This is why these two are perfect for each other.  This is winner meeting winner. How different their backgrounds are or how many decades apart they may have been born doesn't matter. Age is just a number. What they have is the shared experience of standing before the crowd, looking out at the world you've just conquered, and knowing you just made it your own. And it's just possible that next year they'll be on the red carpet with Bill wearing her ring.
