'We Need To Run a Go Ball on No. 29': Emeka Egbuka Identified the Play That Won Ohio State the National Championship
Emeka Egbuka was outstanding all season for Ohio State and particularly in the College Football Playoff for Ohio State, but I have to imagine no clip from this season will serve him better with NFL teams than this one right here. He may have won the Buckeyes the national title between series in the second half.
Egbuka said Notre Dame corner Christian Gray was playing too far inside when Carnell Tate was attacking him down the field. Fast-forward to the throw to Jeremiah Smith with the national championship on the line:
What a call. Guys obviously notice tendencies like that throughout games all the time, but this one turned into one of the most important plays in Ohio State history. Take a bow, young man.
And to all future OSU opponents for the next two seasons: if you have the Buckeyes on the ropes and the game is hanging in the balance on a 3rd and long, do not leave your corner 1-on-1 with Smith. It will end like this every single time.
