Timothée Chalamet CRUSHED His Musical Performances On SNL - What Can’t This Guy Do???
Alright, it’s getting unfair at this point - what can’t Timothée Chalamet do?! He sings, he acts, he dances, he raps, he's bilingual, he goes home to Kylie Jenner at night, he comes off as the most likable/relatable dude in the world, AND he gets Adam Sandler outta the house?!
He really is the Lisan al-Gaib.
Seriously, though, I thought Chalamet was great as the host and musical guest of SNL last night. Say what you will about the overall quality of the sketches (which actually had a pretty decent hit rate imo) but his musical performances were both legit great.
He opened with a badass, rock n’ roll-fueled cover of Dylan's 'Outlaw Blues' (where it almost felt like he channeled the energy of someone like Liam Gallagher in his parka/massive shades) straight into the folky/spoken-word 'Three Angels', which was a cool artsy choice I think even Bob himself might’ve appreciated. Then, for his second performance, he did a did a more stripped-back, mellow Dylan tune: 'Tomorrow Is A Long Time' - and absolutely crushed that as well.
It’s not like Timothée Chalamet showcased some kinda voice from the heavens you’ve never heard before, and he’s not a guitar virtuoso of any sort, but he’s just an extremely solid performer all around and clearly has “it” - and you can’t teach that.
So many talented, seasoned artists have faired much worse on that SNL soundstage. It ain’t easy to deliver a great performance there - but Chalamet sure as hell pulled it off. Credit to him for even having the balls to try pulling double-duty, and a major hats off for a job well done.
P.S. Here's his monologue….
