Soccer Tough: Diego Luna Breaks His Nose Then Immediately Delivers An Assist For The USA, Mauricio Pochettino Dubs Him 'Big Balls'
I know soccer, especially US soccer, isn't really on anyone's mind right now, but we just had our January camp and we got a new star. Diego Luna. Let me clarify here a bit. We didn't have our 'normal' group here. It wasn't a traditional international break, so mostly MLS guys and guys who are 'next up' so to speak. Diego Luna is in that group and he won Pochettino over with his big balls.
Rubbed a little dirt on it, stuffed some cotton up there and got an assist for the red, white and blue. That's soccer tough right there. Oh, I should mention we won. I know, I know. It's Costa Rica. But I've seen us lose shit like this before. So, yeah, the Pochettino era is already off to a good start. We haven't embarrassed ourselves.
A guy like Luna is important to watch. 2026 isn't that far away and while we have our guys, there's a good chance someone misses it because of injury or falls out of form, whatever it might be. Luna is only 21-years old and actually has some creativity to his game. Yeah, I wish he wasn't in the MLS, our guys getting playing time in the big European leagues is helping. But if we're going to roll out a squad with 11 guys having big balls, I'm good with that. Give me someone who lays it on the line in a friendly against Costa Rica.
