It's Awesome, Baby - Next Week Dick Vitale Will Be Broadcasting His First College Hoops Game In 2 Years After He Kicked Cancer's Ass
Fuck yeah, man. Dick Vitale is the guy who we all have grown up with in the college basketball world. He's the guy who was always on the call when we had one channel to watch games and the guy who was always calling the big ACC games. I guess it's fitting for him to be back calling a Duke game. That's about right. But, there's something about still hearing Dick Vitale's voice on a call. It's even better knowing he kicked cancer's ass:
I've said this before but, it sucks seeing guys we know and grew up with leaving the game. I know it happens with age, but it really hits home when it's a guy you spent your entire life basically watching or listening to. Dickie V always earned the right to go out his own way. Not because of this bullshit disease that he kept on beating. Not because of health conditions. Dickie V earned the right to call however many games more he wants, even if it's just one game, and decide to hang it up if he wants. He's one of the guys who deserves a retirement tour.
It's fitting for Dickie V to kick cancer's ass. I have nothing but all the respect in the world for him and what he does with his foundation to help battle childhood cancer. That piece of shit disease never stood a chance against someone like him. The man has dedicated his life to 1) college hoops and 2) beating cancer. 2-for-2.
Shout out Dickie V, man. It's awesome with a capital A that he's going to back on a call next week. And as always, fuck cancer.
