The 'SEVERANCE' Cast (And Ben Stiller) Appeared In A Big Glass Box At Grand Central To Promote Season 2
After a LOOOONNNGGGG (nearly three year) wait, 'Severance' is finally back for Season 2 tonight at 9pm ET; and don't look now, but AppleTV+ might've actually learned how to promote their shows!
The main cast of 'Severance' (Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Patricia Arquette, Tramell Tillman, and Britt Lower) walked into a big glass box at Grand Central Station on Tuesday and remained in character - as best they could - for a while, working at their computers and doing meaningless tasks while onlookers (including series director Ben Stiller) watched and filmed....
Listen to that video from Ben Stiller with sound if you can - he's being very polite to a lady telling him how funny she thinks Zoolander is, but it's just a funny little exchange knowing he's trying to get a quick clip to promote his show.
It was such a great publicity stunt to promote the new season in my eyes, it had a lot of people talking online, and as this Twitter user points out - it works so well with the themes of the show....

On the very same night, AppleTV+ had someone sitting courtside at the Dallas Mavericks game in an outside suit from 'Silo' which also caught the attention of many on social media….
Hopefully they were just there for a quick picture, you'd have to give that person the biggest "DOWN IN FRONT!!!" of all time in that getup.
This may seem like typical promotional bullshit to you, the reader, but I promise you: this is a MONUMENTAL day in AppleTV+ history. Ladies and gentlemen….I think they've hired a marketing department.
After years and years of failing to promote their amazing, well reviewed, high budgeted Emmy and Golden Globe-winning shows full of Academy Award winners, they're finally starting to get some eyes on them. They offered AppleTV+ for free for a weekend to kick off the new year, which was a great move….
….and hey - combine that with the two viral moments in this blog and it's certainly a start for the young upstart streamer!
If you haven't seen either one of these shows, because Apple has dropped the ball on promotion until now, but you're looking to get into one of them - I'd definitely recommend 'Severance' over 'Silo' personally. Both shows had great first seasons, but I thought the writing/acting/ending of 'Severance' was much stronger than that of 'Silo', and Season 2 of 'Silo' has been slightly disappointing where 'Severance' Season 2 is supposedly "generational TV"….
It really is a tremendous sci-fi show with a fascinating concept; the whole work/home life being severed thing. It raises so many questions every episode and unravels its mystery masterfully. Ben Stiller does a spectacular job as director, as well, always keeping the tension at a maximum through subtly and simplicity.
If you're looking for an AppleTV+ show outside of those two, Jeff D Lowe highly recommends 'Slow Horses', which stars Gary Oldman and gets nominated for/wins every award under the sun despite seemingly nobody except Jeff watching it….
'Severance' returns tonight after the 'Surviving Barstool' finale, and I'm reeeaaally hoping it lives up to the hype! That third act/cliffhanger in the final episode of the first season was some all time television in my opinion and they've got a very high bar to clear with this upcoming season - but I've heard nothing but great things. Season 3 is even in development already. Can't wait!
Here's a (SPOILER-FILLED) Season 1 recap video if you need a refresher before tonight….
P.S. When Trent and I lived together in the city for a few years, I'd take the 6 train from 28th Street to Grand Central home every day - and oftentimes, I'd smoke a little weed on my walk to that 6 train, and arrive at Grand Central a little bit baked. Judge if you may - it just made the commute go by a little faster for me.
On more than one occasion, I saw a celebrity at Grand Central (former UFC Commentator Mike Goldberg and Henry Winkler aka "The Fonz", to name just a few) and came home to excitedly tell Trent, only for him to not believe me. He'd tell me I was just "high" and "seeing things". I think this is what the ladies call "gaslighting" nowadays. I really laughed imagining how he'd react if I came home and told him I saw Adam Scott working at a desk inside a giant glass box on my way home, though. I think that might have finally convinced him to call 9-1-1 for my marijuana-induced overdose.
P.P.S. Even Radioman showed up….
